That’s a major problem in some of the larger cities. Criminals even steal the aluminum siding.
I had heard of it in larger cities, but not here. Sheesh, things are tough enough, much less doing that to someone trying to sell there home.
In recent weeks I have heard of people stealing sidewalks and shrubs from around people’s houses. Copper downspouts are no longer safe either.
Sidewalks, copper downspouts, even household shrubbery are among other thefts reported.
What kind of sidewalks?
concrete slab sections and paver stones
One young couple had their new home built prior to their wedding and honeymoon. When they returned from the honeymoon their nursery stock was….. GONE.
You gotta be kidding!?!! Has this been in the A-T? I don’t get it, only see the online edition.
Why would anyone steal concrete slabs? It sounds more like the sidewalks were repossessed by a contractor who was not paid for the job.
Why do criminals do anything that they do?
Slabs are handy to be used as approaches to out-buildings/sheds, deflectors beneath hydrants, and wherever one’s creative mind takes it.
Closest I’ve heard was Toledo area for copper thefts out of homes, schools & businesses. Siding and gutters I could believe locally. Sidewalks & shrubs??? I’m not sure if that’s local or not, but I’ve never heard of any.
As for people just out stealing, I’m sure that’s going on as I’m typing right now. It’s how people are these days why work hard and pay for it when you can just steal it from someone that does.
I believe all of this type of theft has happened locally.
Wasn’t long ago that we read of the landowner who observed people loading-up scrap iron from his barn. Seems that was in Seneca County.
What does a rock of cocaine sell for around here now? Last I heard, $20 was needed for a good “buzz.” Old farm machinery weighs-up, and there’s plenty of it around. Quick money, if they care to work a bit to get it.
