Yes, We Have No Bananas (or bucks, either)

“Commission President Dave Sauber told the board yesterday the county would exceed its $10 million annual limit for issuing bonds if it were to proceed with the courthouse in 2008. The county already has committed support for construction projects at two area nursing homes that total $9 million.

“I don’t think we can have [the new courthouse] completely designed and programmed yet this year,” Commissioner Ben Nutter replied. “The timing is going to be so close that we can wait a month if we have to.”

  1. We need a cooling down period. The commissioners are rushing this project to beat the “November 4th deadline,” which will only lead to costly mistakes in the design and construction of the new courthouse. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, we should wait to hear the bids for the construction of the new courthouse, before we decide to raze the 1884 building.

  2. The problem is convincing the commissioners of that. They won’t be happy until they’re dancing in the rubble of the courthouse, no matter what the cost to the county - now, or in the future.

  3. Speaking of “November 4, 2008, ” I spotted a glimmer of hope on a bumper sticker today. Seems there is relief on the horizon. I like it!

  4. Anon:
Please tell us more about this bumper sticker that gives hope.

  5. Anon: Which candidate is using that slogan?

  6. Ah…. the sticker clearly indicates that THERE IS A RACE for Prosecutor! The name on the sticker is “DeVINE.” [Does not appear to be a 'junior.']

  7. I saw two of those stickers. Perhaps that is why I spotted Derek’s competition at the Art Festival.

  8. Derek has no competition….Where can the public get one of those stickers?

  9. Name a drop-spot, and I’ll leave you one in a plain, brown envelope. Tell me WHEN and WHERE, and I’ll send an emissary. In fact, I have more than ONE extra.
