Oh Where, oh Where, is my Advertiser-Tribune?

A Guest Post from G.K.

“Is it just my house? We have had the newspaper be a “no-show” quite a few time this year. My wife regularly calls to complain and the response is always that “we’re trying” or the “new carrier” crap. We didn’t get a paper on Sunday and my wife called around 8:45. The circulation department agreed that this was poor service and said that the paper would be delivered shortly. Here it is now MONDAY at 1:45, and we still never received the Sunday paper.

For Monday’s paper we did not have it at the house when I left a little before 8:30. The wife called and again got the same old lines. I went home around lunch and figured that my wife must have taken the paper with her to work. Oops! No, the paper still had not been delivered. She called again around 12:30 and it got to our house around 1:15 p.m.

The paper says that we should have our paper by 6:00 am weekdays and by 7:00 am on the weekends. Not much of a chance of that happening.

To top off this story, my wife and circulation manager had a nice chat on Sunday. My wife told her that the service was pathetic. The circulation manager told my wife that she agreed and couldn’t take working in that environment. Sunday was her last day because she was tired of advocating for the customer in that environment. Now, I wasn’t a party to that conversation, but believe that this fairly recounts the details.

Is it just us or are others having the same issues?”

  1. I traveled down Nelson Street around 4:30 p.m., and was pleased to see that about half a dozen A-T workers were able to share time in a lung bake-off. The smoke was flying! I would bet they were using the time effectively to figure out who would be delivering your paper late tomorrow!

  2. The A-T dispenser box STOLE my money, so I called to complain. The receptionist offered to GIVE me a paper if I drove across town to procure it. I said: “No thanks! I’d rather be mad.”

I have not subscribed, nor have I ever fed one of their dispensers again! “Clip” me once, it’s their fault. If I allow them to do it to me again, it’s MY FAULT!

  3. For what its worth I have never had a delivery problem! I HAVE had many content problems however….

  4. G.K., we must live in the same neighborhood. The best story I have was the time I got half of a Sunday paper, sections A and B were missing. I will say that when called the A-T quickly runs a copy right out to my house.

  5. Does the A-T have proofreaders and spell-check?

  6. When I was there, they did not.

  7. They have spell check. Unfortunately, it’s set for Albanian.

  8. No offense to any of you Albanians out there, of course.

  9. It is part of my Sunday routine to find where the AT puts the EXACT same article in the newspaper in two different places with a different headline. And it does not take an English major to find the grammatical errors, ain’t it so.

  10. Several months ago, there was a story on the front page of the Sunday C or D section (don’t remember what it was about), full page, including pictures and everything. 2 weeks later - same article, same pictures, same location.

Regarding typos, grammatical errors, etc, a few years ago there was a notice in the Lost and Found about a missing 100′ long house, worth $20, missing from Junior Home Park.

  11. Heavens! Did they ever locate the lost house? I bet the inside of the house stores all the information our county prosecutor never wants anyone to find out.

  12. Actually, it was supposed to be a “hose”…

…but I guess the county prosecutor could hide things in a hose, as well. Sort of appropriate, actually.

  13. Puddintame - ROFLOL

  14. Albanians are descended from the Hittites. My grandmother is of that lineage, and she has been depressed ever since reference was made to her people in SCB.

  15. My apologies for your grandmother’s depression.

I can relate. I am a native speaker of English, and I get depressed every morning, when I see that the A-T is still butchering my noble language.

  16. Maybe we could give them SPELL CHECK and GRAMMAR CHECK for “Gooder English Week” Any extra software lying around anywhere?

  17. Hey blog central. Can someone start a discussion on the pending decision by the city council to close the leaf and brush facility in Tiffin. Seems this a local issue of great practical import that was buried in a recent AT courthouse story.

  18. Senator - Your wish is my command.
