  1. Honey, can you spare a quart?

  2. I love their sense of humor!

  3. It’s easy to have a sense of humor when you’re rolling in those kinds of bucks.

  4. Boy, oh boy!!! Speaking of political crap, this statement about Dave “Sign Hog” Sauber appeared in today’s A-T in reference to Governor Strickland’s firm pledge to get Seneca County $2 million for courthouse renovation:

“Commissioner Dave Sauber said he thought the governor’s interest in the courthouse issue might be motivated by sources outside the governor’s office.”

Just who in the heck does Dave Sauber think he is? What arrogance!!!

  5. He’s just upset because “the voices” are talking to the governor, and not him.

  6. Maybe Sauber finally “hears voices!” Your voice, and mine.

Drop out from the race, Dave. We’re going to DOG you. Why don’t you withdraw from the race before we initiate recall action?

  7. I wish someone would tell us what Sauber and Nutter have accomplished the last four years. Seems to me they built themselves a new office, permanently instated the emergency sales tax, and caused nothing but friction in the community, resulting in at least three lawsuits.

  8. Has anyone else seen Sauber riding through town on his motorcycle? I wish I hadn’t!!!

  9. The whole problem I have is that, in my opinion, no matter what idea is proposed to them, the paper articles make it sound like they shoot down everyone of them. I admit I have not attended one meeting so can’t say first hand. I also know how the paper tends to not quote people correctly. However, I see idea after idea corrected, misdirected, shot down, etc.

I also see misdirection in that they say this and the next day the total opposite is in the paper correcting them.

  10. Mr. Bell’s proposal was awesome. Something that is entirely different. I can’t understand how the commissioners so quickly changed their opinion of that proposal. Mr. Bell informed commissioners where they could seek grant monies, and gave examples of projects that he
has worked on. He was involved in the Historic
Sandusky Co. Jail restoration which received the
2008 Heritage Ohio Award. That project was
largely funded through an SWD grant and CDBG
grant. The former jail now houses the Sandusky
    County Commissioners.
His proposal made a lot of sense and he explained the cost of each phase.

  11. But remember that Nutter said that Mr. Bell’s numbers didn’t add up.

I have yet to get a correct figure either way from them. They inflate or deflate depending on who they talk too. I understand that steel and gas prices fluctuate but give me a base number on what you expect it to cost each way and then put out a press release on that.

Part of the problem is that they don’t want to be attached to a number that will likely have overruns and then get vilified for that. But there are too many different numbers floating out there that it needs to be done.

  12. Get - I sometimes wonder if this whole courthouse situation is one big misunderstanding perpetuated by what is read in the newspapers. I’ve attended some of these meetings, and walked away with a completely different perspective. This is the purpose of the Design Review process. To get the facts on the table and in front of the public, so that everyone can make an informed decision.

  13. “Starbucks,” a trinket shoppe, an arcade…. what’s this FLAP? All the crying, whining, and sabre-rattling, simply to preserve an old building that fall apart in the next generation anyway!

Nice going, folks! Our DOWNTOWN DISTRICT hinges on …… that? For what?

  14. Sarabelle, this is what was actually discussed at yesterday’s Design Review meeting. According to the July 18th Toledo Blade, “A Chillicothe, Ohio preservation consultant yesterday told county commissioners he is convinced that a yet-to-be-identified private entity could take it over and turn it into ‘an exciting mix of cultural, government, entertainment, educational, some retail, and possibly restaurant uses.’”

  15. Sarabelle - when was the last time you went through the courthouse? If that building is going to “fall apart in the next generation”, I’ll come back from the dead and eat my hat, plus everyone else’s.

I was at the meeting yesterday. Mr. Conoway said touring our courthouse was one of the most “exciting” things he’s ever done. This is a man who’s worked on over 70 historic renovation projects. He’s seen a lot more than all of us combined.

Mr. Conoway said that our courthouse is in much better shape, and much better maintained, than many buildings he’s worked with.

The renovation/restoration of our courthouse is the subject of INTENSE interest, not only locally, but state wide and nation wide. Yet, our commissioners can’t/won’t SEE what a gem we have in our midst. I can’t help but wonder exactly WHAT is blinding them to that fact; a fact that has been stated over and over and OVER again by every expert who’s gone through it, including those they themselves have paid good money - OUR MONEY - to do.

Everyone is drooling over this building, except for 2 men - Nutter and Sauber. Why is that?

  16. As for cost overruns, virtually every construction project, whether new, restoration/renovation, or even just redoing a room in a house, has cost overruns. Period. I’ve experienced it in my own home, while gutting and redoing a kitchen. It makes me wonder why there has been so much emphasis put on that possibility. It seems to me to be just another thing to split hairs over.

  17. Common Sense: Perhaps we should have left our old jail up. It could now house the Seneca County commissioners!

  18. Puddintame: One of the past county administrations wanted to do just that, restore the old jail for use as an office for the County Commissioners and a law library, but it’s too late to be discussing that.

  19. Maybe we could just put them in the current jail?

  20. Would there be enough room for them?

  21. Pud: Your line: “Everyone is drooling over this building, except for 2 men - Nutter and Sauber. Why is that?” may be giving us a clue as to why we have a break in the river wall!

All those years of drool probably prompted a backwash that blew-out solid material! It’s careless of us all to be drooling so much!

  22. If I recall these Commissioners promised to let the sales tax run out. That was one of their campaign promises four years ago. One of them campaigned strongly against the tax and it’s affects on car sales.

  23. I wonder which one is interested in the sales tax on car sales?

  24. Tig: I sense that you have an answer to that question. Share it with us! Which one is it?
