Take a look at the following links. Why don’t we have a county website? (P.S. the website owned by Boroff Publictions and is a dot com, and is not anymore official than the Seneca County blog.

FYI: Seneca County is more concerned with crafting a “Sixes House of Thrills” at the corner of Washington and Market Sts. to effect a creative-balance with “Sixes Corners” on North Washington. We don’t have time to establish a BLOG!
You know, when we are trying to convince people to invest in our county, that is one view into the area. It would make us more professional looking. As far as city sites, Fostoria has a really, really good site. And this is not a case of the monitor is greener on the other side of the fence.
Interesting thought!
The county has a website http://www.seneca-county.com
Better - That is not correct. The website link you gave is the Seneca County Commissioners website. We have had a link to it since the blog began.
I guess you are right, they don’t have a “County Site”, but most of the County Officials have sites, don’t they?
If you look at the other county sites, they have links to all the county offices, plus a whole lot more. Here you have to go in and search again for teh induvidual offices, and save them separately. We have all the links here on the blog, but a real county site would be much better, easier to find in google, etc., only save one in favorites instead of eleven plus sites.
I just discovered there’s a new website regarding the courthouse. It details the latest proposal to build a subgrade addition in front of the courthouse. http://www.senecacountycourthouse.blogspot.com/.
New Web Site Fletcher for Commissioner

I will get those posted, and thank you for the links. I haven’t had a chance to look over Fletcher’s site, but did the Bell site. It is a great site. Very informative, and well put together. Just out of curiousity, why did he just now come forward, or had he and I missed it?
I don’t know why Mr. Bell only now came forward. Perhaps it’s taken him this long to develop the plan and present it? That would be my guess.
However, I think his plan is the best thing going right now. It solves the problem of what to do with the courthouse, space needs, and I think that, if the commissioners were to actually sit down and consider it seriously, it would also be a “cure” to all the animosity their blind determination to destroy this building, at any price, has caused in this county over this issue. They might even go down in history as the people who saved the courthouse, and not as the ones who destroyed our downtown.
I’m sure Mr. Bell has been formulating this idea for some time. It should be noted that he has generously provided this information free of charge to the County and the Design Review Board.
Our downtown district is being held-together with Scotch tape and Super Glue if its very existence depends on a stack of ugly stone, weeds, and plywood replacement window panes.
Ott - I don’t think the downtown hinges on the courthouse one way or the other. But I have come to realize the commissioners did not explore options and grants as they have said. I have not been a fan of saving the courthouse. However it is obvious that we can compromise on this issue, and make everyone happy. No matter what happens the downtown is in dire need of revitalization.
In truth, it’s virtually a nationwide-blight — and we all know why!
Wow, I was impressed by Mr. Bell’s presentation. However, I think it is the wrong financial solution for a true renovation of the courthouse.
His clever numbers use $2 million from the state to repair the stairs, replace the dome for 750,000 and put in a causeway from the additions to the courthouse annex.
That leaves the county taxpayer holding the bag for at least 4 million in costs to build the underground office space. That means that we will have spent about 7 million and not have a restored courthouse. If we are going to sink 6 million into this project, it should all go to the courthouse. If not we will end up with nice new underground facilities, with no reason to move out of them, and a causeway through an empty old courthouse with nice stairs and a dome, but closed off to the public. This would be a waste of money.
Next, we barely have any nice open space downtown. How exactly are we going to benefit from transforming the front lawn to a “roof” . By the, I don’t know how secure people will feel having nice glass windows exposed to the local public who probably would like nothing better than to vandalize the courtrooms from above. I guess we could just fence off the area and provide additional security, but again that would add costs. However, I really kike the secure sallyport entrance. That is something that all plans should include.
